Saranac Lake Golfers Win Sectional Title
The Saranac Lake Red Storm Golf team rolled to another Sectional title last week in Westport. The team finished with a 333 team total - 3 shots better than rival Lake Placid. The Blue Bombers were the only team to beat the Red Storm during the regular season. Peru finished third at 344.
Junior Ethan Sawyer shot 73 on day one and followed with an 86 on day two to finish second in the medalist competition. Jordan Guay of Peru finished first with a 155. Dustin Fischer also qualified for the state competition from the Saranac Lake team. He was just one shot behind Sawyer in third shooting 81-79 for a 160 two-day total. Other scores from Saranac Lake included a 181 for Austin Ecret and a 189 for Danny Strack.
Sawyer went on to finish second in the Chisum Cup one week later which pits the best golfers from Section VII against the best from Section X. Sawyer shot a 74 at Malone Golf Club, just one shot behind Brushton-Moira's Devin Delisle. The two were paired together and the medalist was decided on the last hole. Other Saranac Lake golfers included Dustin Fischer - who posted a 79 and Austin Ecret - who had a 91.
The local high school team makes its home at the Saranac Lake Golf Club.
